What are your safeguarding responsibilities?

Think about what you should do to create a safer learning environment.

Each member of staff:

  • Has a legal responsibility to safeguard all learners.

  • Must have an awareness of their organisation's safeguarding policies, procedures and systems. If they are unaware of them, they should ask senior staff and raise a concern about how accessible the information is.

  • Must adhere to their organisation's safeguarding policies, procedures and systems.

  • Must be vigilant and report concerns as appropriate.

  • Must help to create a listening culture and help to ensure that learners know that they can come to them and be listened to.

Samaritans A confidential telephone or email listening service if you need to talk about your own experiences.

SupportLine Offers confidential emotional support by telephone, email and post, working to help develop healthy and positive coping strategies. They also keep details of counsellors, agencies and support groups throughout the UK.

Help for Adult Victims of Child Abuse (HAVOCA) Provides support, friendship and advice for any adult whose life has been affected by childhood abuse.
