Safeguarding in context
Safeguarding aims to promote the welfare of learners by protecting them from all types of abuse. The text opposite shows the differences between safeguarding and child protection.
The responsibility for creating safer learning environments is shared by everyone working in the FE and Skills sector. An open and supportive culture promotes the safety and well-being of all members of the organisation and means that:
- Learners can thrive and achieve.
- Staff, volunteers and visitors can feel secure.
- Everyone is assured that their welfare is a high priority.
Child protection looks at recognising abuse and neglect and acting on it ...
... whereas safeguarding looks at keeping children, young people and adults safe from a much wider range of potential harm, and looks at preventative action, not just reaction.
