Leaders' and managers' responsibilities
Leaders' and managers' responsibilities as part of the Prevent duty include:
- implementing the Prevent duty strategy set by the Board
- reviewing the implementation of the Prevent duty and reporting on this to the Board
- ensure all staff, volunteers and board members undertake appropriate Prevent duty training
- including the Prevent duty as part of the Safeguarding duty
- operating an effective Prevent reporting system which will normally be part of the Safeguarding process
- ensuring there is an officer to report concerns to. Usually the Safeguarding officer should lead in this area. In larger institutions there should be coordination across curriculum areas and sites
- ensuring that there are robust procedures, both internally and externally, for sharing information about vulnerable individuals. This should include information sharing agreements. These must comply with data protection policy and legislation.
- there should be scrutiny by the board through the Safeguarding/Prevent board member
