Developing your personal digital skills

These modules provide a flexible way of learning essential IT skills for teachers and trainers in the FE sector.

They will help you to develop your personal skills and offer ideas about how to use these skills with learners.

You can choose to work through the modules in any order, but we suggest you start with the self-assessment to help you work out what you should look at.

Then enrol on one of our follow up workshops and courses run across the English regions to further develop your skills covered in the above online moduels.

Applying your digital skills in teaching and learning

These courses are designed to help improve your digital skills, building your confidence to use technology in the classroom, workshop or virtual learning environment.

Delivered online with tutor support each module takes you through the theory, demonstrates how the tools can be used and then invites you to have a go yourself. There are currently four 5 hour courses each focusing on a different area of digital development. More courses are in development and they will be added to the site when they are available

Digital tools for Assessment of learning

An introduction to various tools and technologies that will enhance the assessment for learning process by supporting a range of assessment and feedback formats. Participants will see how technology can guide learning through effective & efficient tracking that promotes early support interventions.

Using social media in teaching

The course will introduce some of the frequently used Social Media tools and how they can be used to engage, support and enhance learning in new and innovative ways. This will be a highly interactive course where participants will be able to understand how tools such as Twitter Learning Wheels, Padlet, Pinterest, Facebook and LinkedIn can be used to improve your own digital practices.

Video learning

This course will introduce pedagogical approaches that utilise video, featuring examples in practice across a range of curriculum areas including maths and English. Learners will be able to explore technologies such as augmented reality, gamification, QR codes, video quiz tools and interactive video.

Virtual meeting technology

This course will show learners how to use some of the leading Virtual Meeting Technologies, including; Skype, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Big Blue Button and Google Hangouts.
